Get your Kids Ready to Move!
These are FUN, easy, quick sounds to ‘wake up’ the body and senses and to help children get Ready for Rhythm.
Children should move often during the day. They shouldn’t be sitting at desks working for most of their school day. They shouldn’t be sitting working or playing on screens for most of their day. Regular, repetitive, frequent movement is essential for brain and body integration. Highly structured, rhythmic movements are some of the most effective types of movements if children do them a few times every day.
Using audio cues can be a powerful streategy to help children get ready for rhythmic movement. The sounds are only about 15 seconds long and each sound includes:
- A beginning attention-getting sound to let children know it’s time for rhythmic or structured movement.
- A short fun music sound. During this music kids can wiggle, jiggle, and move however they want. No need to keep to the rhythm or follow any structure. It's a way to ‘wake up’ their senses, and their bodies, to get Ready for Rhythm
- An ending sound to show that it’s time to stop moving and get their bodies ready for structured Rhythmic Movement.
Once they are familiar with the Ready for Rhythm sounds, play one of these sounds right before structured movement and your kids will know immediately what to do.
